Amiloride HCl dihydrate is a potent epithelial sodium channel inhibitor. In order to protect potassium diuretics, acting on the kidney, distal tubules, blocking the sodium-potassium exchange mechanism, promote sodium, chlorine excretion and reduce the secretion of potassium and hydrogen ions. The effect is independent of aldosterone. Its own natriuretic excretion and antihypertensive activity decreased, but with thiazide or loop diuretics combined with a synergistic effect.
