An amber inhibited F recombinant defective strain. The strain supported the growth of M13 bacteriophage vector and had modified but unlimited effect on transfected DNA. The F 'in this strain carries lac ZΔM15, which enables alpha-complementation with the amino end of β-galactosidase encoded in λZAP and can be used for blue-white spot screening.
