Coelenterazine is a luciferase from Renilla, Aequorea and other Marine organisms, which is commonly used as an indicator or reporter protein for cellular phenomena in eukaryotic cell expression analysis. Sea kidney luciferase is often used as a reporter for transcriptional regulation, and aequorin is often used as a calcium indicator. Other applications of coelenterin include the detection of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) by chemiluminescence in cells or tissues.
