Product Introduction
Galactose oxidase (GAO) is a fungal secretory enzyme that catalyzes the oxidation of a series of primary alcohols to corresponding aldehydes, reducing dioxygen to hydrogen peroxide.
Application
Quantitative determination of galactose in blood and other biological fluids; Histochemical localization of galactose; Detection and differentiation of glycoproteins
Precautions
GAO has broad substrate specificity, but has significant stereospecificity, oxidizing only the D-isomer of the substrate. GAO oxidizes galactose and some galactose derivatives in free and polymerized forms. Oxidation occurs at the C6 position
International System Classification Number: EC: 1.1.3.9
Optimal pH: 7
Isoelectric point: 7.5
Inhibitor: cyanide; Diethyldithiocarbamic acid; EDTA
Unit definition: With galactose as the substrate, at 25 ℃ and pH 6.0, the absorbance at 425 nm changes by 1.000 units per minute
