Urea description: used for protein denaturation, as a mild solvent for insoluble or denatured proteins; Together with 6M guanidine hydrochloride and DTT renatured the proteins in denatured samples.
Urea: An organic compound composed of carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and hydrogen, also known as urea. It is the first organic compound obtained by synthetic inorganic substances. White square prism crystal or powder. It has an odor of ammonia and a salty taste. When heated above its melting point, it decomposes into biuret, ammonia and cyanuric acid. 1g was dissolved in 1mL of water, 10mL of 95% ethanol, 20 ml of absolute ethanol, 6mL of methanol and 2mL of glycerol. It is soluble in concentrated hydrochloric acid and almost insoluble in ether and chloroform. The pH of the aqueous solution was 7.2. The melting point is 132.7 ℃.
Biochemical applications of urea:
(1) antimony and tin were detected in the analysis. Lead, calcium, copper, phosphorus, iodide, and nitrate were measured. Standard solutions were prepared for the determination of blood urea nitrogen, and serum bilirubin was measured.
(2) Urea is very effective in denaturating proteins, especially non-covalently bound proteins. Thus the solubility of some proteins can be improved to concentrations up to 10 mol/volume.
Storage conditions of urea: sealed, cool and dry;
Urea toxicity: irritating. It is harmful to the human body if inhaled, ingested or absorbed through the skin. Pay attention to protection when using.
