Use and synthesis method:
For biochemical research. The antibacterial spectrum is wider than erythromycin, and the effect on gram-positive bacteria is significantly improved, especially on Haemophilus influenzae, which is 4-6 times stronger than erythromycin. An azalide antibiotic that inhibits the growth of gram-negative bacteria, such as Haemophilus influenzae. Azithromycin acts by interfering with the formation and translation of ribosomal subunits in the 50S. Studies including capillary electrophoresis have shown that azithromycin can be used as a chiral selective agent to separate compounds from enantiomers. In addition, azithromycin can also be used to increase the outgoing flux of chloride ions and selectively reduce tumor necrosis factor α in human cystic fibrosis cells.
